Once a year Castoro Cellars offers just such an opportunity. You’ll get the opportunity to work hand in hand with Castoro Cellars’ team of winemakers to make a wine blend all your own. Each guest will get to take home a 1.5 L bottle of their blend, create a custom label, cork and wax your bottle of wine. And if it can’t get any better it does – a full catered dinner is included.

Car Free to San Luis Obispo

Consider making your trip car free to San Luis Obispo.

Surfliner Train
Surfliner train to SLO

Most people are so tied to their cars, that they forget to consider there are other ways to get around – particularly to San Luis Obispo. The train, Amtrak, offers more than a great view! If you want to ditch the car and the traffic, consider booking your trip on Amtrak’s “Coast Starlight” or “Pacific Surfliner”.

The train tracks along the beautiful Pacific Ocean, many places where you are closer to the ocean than any roads. The picture-perfect views come standard with any ticket! But don’t hesitate to enjoy the train’s various cars. The lounge and cafe cars are known for their rooftop windows and spectacular views.

HWY 1 Closed North of Ragged Point

Just because HWY 1 is closed north of Ragged Point doesn’t mean the area doesn’t deserve some of your time.

Look at it the other way: HWY 1 is open all the way to Ragged Point, which means there are lots of adventures to be had between SLO and Ragged Point.

First Stop is Morro Bay. Pull over and walk the embarcadero, or park over by the commercial marina and enjoy some awesome fresh seafood at Giovanni’s or food and wine at STAX wine bar. Either way you are seaside and able to enjoy the great sea views – including our own little Gibralter by the name of Morro Rock. Walk the walking path that takes you to Morro Rock – you can’t miss it!

Guess it turns out that the climate for growing wine grapes is very similar to that needed for growing olives! So, among the many acres of vineyards in San Luis Obispo County you are certain to find acres of olives.

Enjoy Cayucos Abalone!

Enjoy Cayucos abalone!

Abalone Farm
Abalone Farm

That’s right, we have an abalone growing farm – or more precisely, abalone aquaculture right here on the central coast. The Abalone Farm is one of the few in the country to painstakingly recreate a natural growth environment where the red abalone they grow flourish. The abalone is available wholesale only. I buy mine at the pier in Avila Beach or you might call your local fishmonger and ask that they order the delicacy for you. The abalone is a mollusk. A favorite way to serve it is layered with pork belly and avocado – super delicious!
